Sports News Tuesday - 10/9

The EWG girl’s tennis team defeated Pilgrim 7-0.  The team is currently in third place in the Division III West division.  Our next match is Wednesday, 10/9 at 3:30pm at Hope High School.

  

Congratulations to Katie Millar and Mike Dampier for finishing first in their cross country races Monday.  The boy’s team beat Middletown and West Warwick.

The EWG girl’s tennis team defeated Warwick Vets 6-1 yesterday. Their next match is Thursday (10/3) at Coventry at 3:00pm.

EWG Boosters Meets 10/7

The EWG Boosters Inc. will be meeting Monday Oct. 7th at 7pm in the high school teachers’ lounge. Please join us to support our student athletes.

A Bunch of Sports News!

Congratulations to Mike Dampier and Katie Millar for being the first and second Rhode Island runners, in their respective races, at  the Ocean State Invitational Cross Country Meet this past Saturday. The meet attracted schools from all over the northeast with over 200 runners per race.

Julia VanGuyzen and Sarah Rumsey represented EWG in the individual girls high school Division III qualifying tournament. Both girls defeated their Coventry opponents and have advanced into the main draw of the tournament scheduled for Friday, October 11.  Julia VanGuyzen advanced in 2012 also, as a junior.

On Friday , Sept. 27 , boys soccer team had a Varsity win against Johnston 2-1 with goals by Seniors Joey Miceli and Jack Livsey.  JV tied 2-2 .

Girls’ Varsity Volleyball beat Westerly on  Friday night.

Track Team News

Congratulations to the boys and girls track and field teams for another successful meet. The following are just some of the highlights from some great performances:

 Boy's Meet

• Nathan Stomberg finished 2^nd in the 1500m and 3000m. He set a PR in the 1500m and anchored a winning 4x400m relay
• Tony Tavares and Zach Verrochio finished first and second in the discus and second and third in the shot put
• Zach Hurd and Adam Stomberg finished 1^st and 2nd in the Javelin
• Josh LaPerche finished 2nd in the long jump and set a PR
• Jacob Spinale finished 1^st in the pole vault 
• Paul DiPadua was second in the 300m hurdles

 Girl's Meet

• Tori Ebert won the discus, shot put, javelin and hammer. She set PRs in the hammer and discus
• Morgan Hart won the pole vault and long jump
• Emily Pagliarini, Kendra Racine and Courtney Iva Savage finished 1^st, 2^nd and 3rd respectively in the high jump
• Sydney Cooper was second in the 400M and set a PR
• Eden Francouer was second in the 200M
• Katie Millar was second in the 3000m

Two Winter Teams Left!

The Cheer Team heads into the State Competition ranked 1st in their division. The Ladies will compete on Sat. March 9th. @ PCTA. The competition begins at 12:30. Their division starts at 3:50pm and they will compete at 4:45pm.

The WWEWG Hockey team will play in their semifinal round of the DIII championships this weekend. They hit the ice against Narraganset for the best of 3 round.

Pep Rally!

The Cheer Team will be holding a Pep Rally on Friday Mar. 8th at 7:00pm in the High School Gym. Come out and see their competition routine as they prepare for the State Championships!

Play-offs continue!

The Lady Scarlet Knights continue their DI Basketball play-off run with a Semi- Final game on Tuesday March 5th. They play Barrington at 6:30pm at Rhode Island College!

Tracking Success

Congratulations to the girls indoor track team for beating Cranston East yesterday for their third dual meet win! Some of the highlights include:

• Tori Ebert won the shot and weight
• Emily Pagliarini won the high jump
• Katie Millar finished second in the 1000m and 1500m and ran a PR in1500m.
• Erica Marcus beat Cranston East in the 600m and ran a PR
• Lindsey McCarron and Alex Padula finished first and second against Cranston East in the long jump.

The following 6 girls have qualified for the Division meet this Saturday at 9am.

Soccer Tour of Champions Celebration!

The 2012 Lady Scarlet Knights have been named to the 2nd Annual MaxPreps Soccer Tour of Champions Presented by the Army National Guard.

The team is 1 of only 20 teams selected out of 32,000 varsity teams across the country! They will be recognised on Wednesday, Jan 23, 2013 during the halftime of the boys basketball game. The game starts at 7:00pm. Please come out and celebrate with the Soccer Team!
