Football Playoff Game and Super Bowl Results

The football team defeated North Providence on Tuesday evening by the score of 22 to 18. Al Georgio ran for 185 yards and 2 touchdowns on runs of 20 yards each. Adam Sweeney scored the other touchdown on a 4 yard run. Sweeney and Georgio each ran for a two point conversion. Key plays came from Mattie Varone and Jimmy Read. Varone intercepted a pass that led to a touchdown, and Read picked up a fumble that led to another touchdown. Joe Ferle led all receivers with 5 receptions. The win came from the execution from the offensive and defensive lines. Opening holes for Georgio and Sweeney were: Fred Seymour, Joel Lake, Jimmy Read, Rob Prashaw, Zach McGraw, Kyle Johansen, and Brian Philibert. The victory placed the Knights in the Super Bowl against Middletown.

On Sunday evening the football team won the first Super Bowl in school history by defeating Middletown by the score of 26 to 6. Adam Sweeney scored two touchdowns on runs of 8 and 31 yards while running for 199 yards on the night. Senior captain and quarterback Zach Hornoff also scored two touchdowns on runs of 4 and 6 yards. Sweeney ran for the only successful 2 point conversion and was named the game's Most Valuable Player. Key interceptions came from Mattie Varone, and Zach Hornoff. Joel Lake recovered a key fumble on the 10 yard line in the beginning of the game that set the stage for the knights. The fumble was caused by a crushing hit by Kyle Johansen. The victory was made possible by the domination of the line of scrimmage from Knight's lineman: Fred Seymour, Jimmy Read, Josh Ritter, Joel Lake, Rob Prashaw, Zach McGraw, Kyle Johansen, Brian Philibert, and Ryan Rawnsley. John Marshal kept Middletown at bay with his punting and kick offs. The crowd greatly favored the Scarlet Knights and kept the players motivation and emotions where they needed to be. The football team greatly appreciates ALL the support it has received from everyone throughout the entire season, and realizes that without it this would not have been possible. THANK YOU

EWG High School Football Results: Chariho 32 EWG 20

The football team lost its annual Thanksgiving Day Game to Chariho by the score of 32 to 20. Scoring touchdowns for the Knights were Al Georgio, 8 yard run; Adam Sweeney 5 yard run, and Joe Ferle 20 yard pass from Zach Hornoff. Sweeney rushed for the only 2 point conversion. The knights also scored a touchdown on a 40 yard reverse from Georgio to Ferle, but the touchdown was negated due to a holding penalty.
The knights begin the playoffs with a game versus North Providence at Coventry High School on Tuesday evening. Game time is at 6:00 p.m. and not the traditional 7:00 p.m. start.
